I’m sure you have wanted to start something new at some point in time. I certainly have.
Whether that plan is to lose weight, to exercise more, generate additional income, start your own business (online or working from home one way or the other), whatever it may be … If you remain “thinking” about it, it will not get off the ground.
You need a plan – and it doesn’t have to be an elaborate one.
In his book, “The Slight Edge”, Jeff Olson says: “if you start with a plan, and you practice those simple daily disciplines, then one plan leads to the next plan, which leads to the next plan, which leads to the next”.
You really do not have to try and figure out the finest details or the whole race right at the start. As Jeff Olson says: “Just figure out where to put your foot for the starting line” and just get started. You simply need to take a bold step on the road to mastering what you want to do.
It may appear to be a difficult or complex thing you want to start, but it doesn’t have to be. Take the first simple step towards your goal. It is always the “simple little things that take you there”
Write down your plan and remember, don’t get bogged down with detail. Keep it simple.
Here are 3 tips to achieving your goal:
- Write down your goal and the time frame by which you want to achieve it
For example: I want to have lost 10 lbs in 8 weeks (remembering that the ideal weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week).
- Put your written goal in a place where you will see and read it every day
- Write down your plan (how you intend achieving the goal you have set for yourself) and keep it simple! The plan will get you started. And, as above, it will need to the next plan, and the next, and the next.
For example: my weight-loss program enable me to lose 36.5 lbs(16.6 kg) working systematically over a period of 9 months.
And as friends and mentors of mine, Chris and Susan Beesley, summarized from Jeff Olson’s book:
Do the easy things,
The simple little things
Consistently over a period of time
For a long enough period of time
To make it work for you!
